THE Philippine Veterans bank re-opened its branch which features a World War II (WWII) History Wall panels in time for the celebration of 72nd Liberation of Baguio on April 27.
The WWII History Wall panels tell the story of the war in the Philippines with several panels dedicated to local WWII events which happened in the city.
“We want to show to the public the local history. Some of the schools are teaching the national history that is why we want to show this and to highlights the bravery of our World War II veterans for them also to appreciate,” Philippine Veterans Bank Vice President for Corporate and Consumer Relations Mike Villa-Real said.
“This is open and free to students for them to learn local history and to tourists also. This is our objective as we would like to share that Baguio City is rich as to World War II history since many incidents happened here specially in Camp John Hay,” Villa-Real added.
The branch has also two display cases of artifacts, paraphernalia and memorabilia from the war which combined with history wall making a visit to the bank almost a trip to the museum.
Close to 9,000 World War II veterans are living in the country according to the Philippine Veterans Office, with 100 living in Baguio City and Benguet.
