RONNIE Dayan, the former bodyguard and lover of Senator Leila de Lima, is now facing charges with the Department of Justice (DOJ) after snubbing the subpoena issued by the congress last October.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez along with Justice Panel heads Oriental Mindoro representative Reynaldo Umali and Ilocos Norte First District representative Rodolfo Fariñas on Thursday charged Dayan for violation of the Article 150 of the Revised Penal Code or disobedience to summons issued by the congress.
"Dayan's failure to appear during the committee hearing on October 6 and to respond to the show cause order without any legal excuse is disobedience to summons lawfully issued by the House of Representatives," the 3-page complaint-affidavit read.
The congress earlier cited Dayan in contempt after he failed to explain why he did not attend the House inquiry. His violation had prompted the House committee on Justice to issue an order of arrest against him.
On October 26, two days after he was arrested, Dayan told the congress that he accepted drug money five times for the then-Justice secretary De Lima's senatorial bid.
He also told the committee that De Lima persuaded him to snub the subpoena and instead continue hiding.
The House leaders on December 13 filed complaints against De Lima for violating the Revised Penal Code or for inducing disobedience to summons issued by the congress after allegedly influencing Dayan not to attend the house probe.
De Lima and Dayan, when found guilty, could face one to six months of imprisonment. (Sunnex)
