THE House of Representatives has passed on second reading the bill declaring February 4 of every year as the Philippine-American War Memorial Day.
Cebu fifth district Representative Ramon "Red" Durano VI and Baguio Representative Mark Go were among the authors of the bill.
The measure aims to declare February 4 as a special working holiday in commemoration of the sacrifice and bravery of the Filipinos who died during the Philippine-American war.
The bill mandates the National Historical Commission of the Philippines to be responsible in providing necessary information to the Department of Education and Commission on Higher Education to ensure the meaningful commemoration of the sacrifice made by Filipino soldiers who fought for the country's independence in the war that began on February 4, 1899 and ended on July 2,1902.
Once enacted into law, the bill states that the above-mentioned agencies shall ensure that activities related to the said event are held in schools in all levels.
Other proponents of the bill are ACT Teachers Representatives Antonio Tinio and France Castro, and Davao first district Representative Karlo Nograles, among others. (VoxPop Philippines)
