AUTHORITIES in the Cordillera arrested two individuals for illegal offense in a separate checkpoints in the province of Abra and Kalinga.
In Abra, police arrested a narra transporter in the night of June 16 after a forest technician reported to the police an alleged narra flitches loaded in a passenger jeepney will be transported from Barangay Pakiling, Bucay going to South Poblacion also in Bucay.
Without delay, checkpoint was established in South Poblacion leading to the seizure of red passenger jeep loaded with assorted log, and the arrest of Arnel Tupasi Belarmino, 51, a resident of Barangay Banglolao, Bucay after he failed to show pertinent documents to transport the flitches.
Likewise, in the evening of Saturday, June 17, a gun holder identified as Aguinaldo Busil Dang-ao, 38, government employee and a resident of Agbannawag, Tabuk City, Kalinga was arrested after he was flagged down in Callagdao Police Precinct, Bulanao, Tabuk City.
Prior to his arrest, suspect was on board a motorcycle going to Bulo, Tabuk City when he was flagged down which led to the seizure of a 12 gauge homemade pistol without serial number and five pieces of ammunition.
Chief Superintendent Elmo Francis Oco Sarona of the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera said the police sustained their efforts and number of checkpoints in the entire region to strengthen the campaign against all forms of illegal activities and possible private armies in order to prevent the occurrence of any crime and transport of contrabands.
Sarona also urged the community to provide relevant information to help in the maintenance of peace and order in the region. (PR)
