THE regional office of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR 11) will highlight the issues of Small-Scale Commercial Fishing Operators through staging a forum on Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated Fishing (IUUF) in the 53rd Fish Conservation Week celebration.
The celebration kicked off yesterday until October 21 with the theme “Malinis at Masaganang Karagatan Tungo sa mas Masiglang Pangisdaan.”
BFAR Davao Regional Director Fatma Idris said the event will tackle the fishing issues in the municipalities of Sta. Maria, Sta. Cruz and Malalag, Davao del Sur with regard the implementation of the Joint Administrative Order No. 02 Series of 2014 or establishing closed season for the conservation of small pelagic fishes in Davao Gulf.
Coastal clean-ups are scheduled at barangays Cadunan, Mabini, Compostela Valley and Malipano Island, Kaputian, Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos), Davao del Norte. They will also have trainings and forums with the fisherfolks in the region.
On the culmination day to be held at BFAR Davao Region Covered Court in Davao City, the bureau will be giving out the Gawad Pasasalamat to partner agencies and institutions. They will also honor the loyalty awardees of BFAR Davao Region employees.
BFAR is the government agency that provides the country's fisherfolk with research and development, extension support and training, and regulatory services, while conducting information campaigns and policy formulation and planning.
