AN ILONGGA directly applying for work in Germany was denied the opportunity by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) for having no recruitment agency in the Philippines.
Margarethe Joy Erebaren, 36, a registered nurse applied and was accepted in Germany as nursing assistant in Senior-Residence of DRK, German Red Cross.
Erebaren already received her working contract and visa as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from the German Embassy, but she said the POEA doesn’t like to let her go because she didn’t hire a recruitment agency and has to appeal personally in the Manila POEA office.
The Ilongga said her work denial by POEA is in violation of the existing bilateral agreement between German Federal Agency of Labor and POEA, and it seems only Germany is following the agreement.
Erebaren appeals to the POEA not to deny her job opportunity and rob her of a better future to help her family.
Erebaren is the daughter of Professor Gerardo Erebaren of the West Visayas State University and she has no intention to live permanently in Germany but only to work. (LCP/Sunnex)
