CEBU CITY (Updated) -- Thousands of Catholic faithful braved the rain to join the annual Sinulog solemn procession on Saturday afternoon, January 14.

Though it rained at times during the procession, devotees continued to walk while praying the holy rosary and singing the Gozos song (Bato Balani sa Gugma).

Members of the Philippine National Police, Special Weapons and Tactics, Armed Forces of the Philippines, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, among others, were deployed to thwart any untoward incidents.

College students from different schools in the city also helped in cordoning the procession route.

The procession started at 1 p.m. from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño.

The carozza carrying the image of Sto. Niño passed by Osmeña Boulevard past 2 p.m. and at Fuente Osmeña Circle around 2:30 p.m.

The procession then passed by General Maxilom Avenue and M.J. Cuenco Avenue, and arrived at the Basilica at 4:16 p.m.
