THE Bacolod City Council has approved a resolution requesting the Department of Tourism (DOT), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), and Bacolod City Representative Greg Gasataya to include the rehabilitation of J.R. Torres Avenue under the DOT-DPWH tourism road.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, stated that J.R. Torres Avenue, a road which stretches from Araneta Street going to Airport Subdivision in Barangay Singcang-Airport, leads to Palmas Del Mar Hotel and Resorts, one of the tourist destinations in Bacolod.
Distrito said every month, thousands of tourists visit the resort to attend seminars, conventions, and special functions for recreation.
“Despite the beauty of Palmas Del Mar Resort, the road leading to it, is already dilapidated and needs urgent rehabilitation,” he added.
He cited that DPWH previously agreed to boost tourism infrastructure projects in priority tourist destination areas in the Philippines under a Convergence Enhancing Access.
Distrito said the development of Tourism Road Infrastructure Program is among the undertakings agreed by the departments which provides the improvement of roads leading to major tourist destinations.
DPWH records showed that from 2011 to 2015, around 463 projects involving construction, upgrading rehabilitation and improvement of roads and bridges, including slope protection work with a total length of 2, 502 kilometers were implemented. (MAP)
