AN INDONESIAN company, which was present during the 4th Davao Investment Conference (Icon), is interested in taking part with the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) socialized housing program.
Arturo Milan, Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. trustee, said that the Indonesian company PT. Audie Building Industry, had requested them to meet up with the current NHA general manager Jun Escalada.
Milan said they had arranged a meeting for the two parties which would tentatively take place next week. Representatives of the building company are to fly from Jakarta to Manila to meet with Escalada.
“PT. Audie Building Industry is exploring on how they can participate on the National Housing Authority socialized housing program. According to the managing director, they’re in Africa, they’re in Papua New Guinea, they’re in East Indonesia building socialized housing. These are really the tenement housing type that goes up to six stories. When they heard we’re going into that, they got so interested,” said Milan adding the interest of the company concerns the socialized housing in the entire country and not only in Mindanao.
Milan said the Philippines has a current backlog of about 5.5 million housing units which accumulates every year. This data had further made the investors excited and interested to participate in.
Included in the other companies that had expressed interest in investing in Davao Region following the 4th Icon, is an Indonesian cement company that looks into the possibility of establishing a cement plant in Davao Region.
Tan Chong Group, a Malaysian automobile distribution company had also expressed interest in investing.
Currently, the company is on its exploratory stages, looking at possibilities of investments in Mindanao, particularly in Davao Region.
“All the while we were just looking at Chinese and Japanese (investors), but we were surprised about the Indonesian and the Malaysian delegates,” said Milan.
