Inner Wanderlust: Travel Tips

Published on

THOUGH September did not begin well for us Davaoeños because of the recent tragedy that we’ve experienced, we are going to stand up strong and face this month with all the positivity and good vibes.

If you’ve read my previous column entry, I have shared my quick getaway to the eastern side of Davao Region. In line with that, here are some of my travel tips and essentials that you may consider for your next travel adventure.

Search for favorable dates

If you’re into some quick getaways just to unwind from school or office work yet you don’t want to spend your vacation leaves or you don’t have any left. There is a four-day long weekend from October 29 to November 1 (October 31, Monday – Additional special non-working day and November 1, 2016, Tuesday – All Saints Day) which is just perfect to schedule a trip!

As of this writing, another holiday is yet to be announced which will be the Eidul Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice on Monday, September 12 (crossing fingers).

When scheduling your trip during holidays, anticipate that there will also be many people who will travel on your chosen destination during that time.

Research

Before going anywhere, I always research online and run through some articles. Through this, you can have an idea of what your itinerary would be and also find some cheaper alternatives during your stay there.

If you’re travelling abroad, you should also search on the country’s culture and basic laws to observe and ensure a hassle free vacation.

Travel Light

I have always been a heavy packer but I usually end up regretting during the trip as I have to carry a lot of stuff which I do not really use.

This results to less pasalubongs because I can’t fit them in my luggage already. So now, during my travels, I try my best to reduce the things that I bring.

Pack only the essentials such as one closed shoe and one sandal, pants/bottoms which you can use twice, a scarf which can be used as an accessory or a shield to also keep you warm are just some of the packing ideas that can help you travel light. Use that extra space you spared for your pasalubongs instead.

Bonus tip: For your upcoming travel and for added safety, always update your parents/a confidant of your whereabouts during the trip. Text them the plate number of the vehicle you are riding or better yet, give them a copy of your itinerary in case cellphone signal isn’t good in the area.

So there you have it! There’s still a long time to prepare before the next looong weekend. A lot of travel destinations to choose from await you. (*wink)
