Insurance company belies scam complaints

A SLEW of complaints pushed Councilor Art Allad-iw to summon Cocolife Insurance Company to clarify scam allegations.

Fernando Rona, marketing vice president, faced councilmen during Monday’s regular session to belie complaints on marketing methods to get clients.

In a resolution, Allad-iw compelled the insurance company to appear as he enumerated complaints his office has received against the company.

Complainants alleged the insurance company is into deception scheme, duping would-be-clients especially Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and tourists of their hard earned money.

Rona said it is not the policy of the company to use deception to get clients.

Allad-iw said based on the statements, the modus operandi of the agents of the company at a local mall will engage clients in conversation and entice their clients about hard to resist promos like free trips abroad, arrangements on house and lot, car and free raffle draw tickets which can only be availed of on that very same day.

Complainants said agents will then inquire about credit cards, bank accounts and if assured the would-be-victim has the financial capacity, they are either informed they have a life insurance from Coco Life and have already swiped their credit card or ATM with an amount debited without the knowledge of the client.

Allad-iw said complainants also alleged policy cancellation is also difficult.

“Several of the complaining parties alleged that even the process of insurance policy cancellation and refund is doubtful as agents of the company had several reasons and it would take 30 to 45 days when the payment and confirmation process would only take a few minutes while other complainants claim that they were not able to process refund or cancellation because they were not informed of the 15 days allowable period,” added Allad-iw.

Rona said the company will look into the complaints. (Maria Elena Catajan)
