International teams to join Uni Games in Cebu City

TEAMS from Japan, China and Malaysia have confirmed their participation in the 2nd Asia-Pacific University Games (Apug), which Cebu City will host on Dec. 6-11.

Tournament lead organizer and Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines (Fessap) executive Atty. Baldomero Estenzo confirmed the participation of the Asian powerhouse countries in the four-event competition that is being organized under the auspices of the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF).

“China, Japan and Malaysia have confirmed their participation in basketball (tournament). We are still waiting for their entry in the other events,” Estenzo told VoxPop Cebu.

The other events are table tennis, badminton and lawn tennis.

The Philippines will be represented by the University of San Jose-Recoletos, Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) champion University of the Visayas and the University of Southern Philippines in the basketball competition.

USJ-R just finished third place in the 3rd Xiamen International Colleges Basketball Tournament, in Xiamen, China, while USPR and USC played in the 1st Apug competition held in 2015. (RCM)
