It’s time

EXPECT local radio to churn out a new batch of Visayan pop hits as Vispop 5 is about to reach its culmination with its awards night happening on July 29, Saturday, SMX SkyHall A, SM Seaside City Cebu. Or if you’re not into radio these days, there’s the internet for you.

So, just a little recap.

Every year for five years now, a select group of important people in the local music industry come together and select six of the best Visayan pop songs that they have to glean from hundreds and hundreds of demo submissions coming from all over the Philippines.

The songwriting campaign is going nowhere else but up and up. Not only are some of the hits sung in local karaoke places or heard during public performances in malls and other establishments, but some of these hits have crossed mainstream Manila and have become recognizable tunes in their own right on a national scale. Some of these songs have even been featured in full-length films and other mainstream media projects.

This weekend, the six songs will be presented live with full production to go along with these. The public is welcome to purchase tickets and witness the show. For those of you who have not heard the songs yet which are vying for the top prize this weekend (the contest is just all formalities though, as every track selected in the top six is picked with pride), here is a quick enumeration of this year’s entries.
