WORLD Boxing Council (WBC) International super flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro of Silay City tries to extend his winning streak and widen his dominance in the 115 pounds.
This time, he challenges International Boxing Federation (IBF) Inter-Continental super flyweight titlist Jonas “Zorro” Sultan of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte on Sunday at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena.
Jaro is a 34-year-old veteran of 43 victories, 13 loses, and five draws with 30 knockouts while the 25-year-old Sultan has 12 wins, including 8 KOs and 3 defeats.
While Jaro aims to snatch his 10th straight victory and back-to-back international title, Sultan made a stunning performance late last year when he scored an upset knockout win over world-rated junior bantamweight Makazole Tete of Africa.
It was recalled that Jaro earned his WBC International super flyweight title after defeating Marjun Pantilgan via unanimous decision in December last year, also at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena.
Though there were no knockdowns in this fight but Jaro’s experience was visible against the younger Pantilgan, who was on the defensive stance most of the match.
Jaro, who still looks forward to win another world championship belt, last tasted the world title belt in 2012 when he stopped Thailand’s Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in the sixth round before losing the crown months later in a controversial split decision loss to Toshiyuki Igarashi of Japan.
Also fighting in the main undercard are Edward Heno and Cris Ganoza for the Philippines Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight title while Roli Gasca faces Richard Pinicpic for a non-title bout in the featherweight division. (HGD)
