MUNICIPALITY of Jasaan replaced Tagoloan as the 2017-2018 champion of the annually-held Kuyamis Festival Inter-Municipality Basketball Tournament.
This, after the Jasaan dribblers blanked the reigning titlist Tagoloan, 2-0 in their best-of-3 championship series concluded last Jan. 10 at the Provincial Capitol grounds in Cagayan de Oro.
Jasaan drubbed Tagoloan in the opener, 87-75 then repeated the feat in Game 2, 107-104 for the title glory worth P50,000 cash, courtesy of Misamis Oriental Governor `Yevgeny’ `Bambi’ Emano.
The Tarantulas nearly stole Game 1 after leading by two, 101-99 in the last two minutes of the ballgame. But Jasaan delivered a 6-2 run to stun Tagoloan and take the momentum down to the second game of the series.
The baby Tarantulas compensated the loss of their men’s team as they captured the 14-under crown after besting Villanueva in the final.
Villanueva settled for second, while Talisayan and Jasaan settled for third and fourth places, respectively.
The Balingasag junior All-Stars reigned in the 18-under division via 58-54 nipping of Tagoloan jr. Tarantulas.
Behind the second-running jr. Taratulas are Jasaan and Magsaysay at third and fourth, in that order.
In volleyball, the municipality of Libertad maintained their reputation as having the best volleyball teams in the province.
This, as Libertad of coach Boy Abut dominated the men and women’s open finals after defeating Tagoloan.
Libertad captured the men’s open division after defeating Tagoloan volleybelles, 25-20, 25-25-22, 9-25 and 25-21.
Its lady spikers wiped out Tagoloan in the first three sets to win the women’s crown.
“Daghan salamat sa tanan nag-apil ug hinaut mas modaghan kita next ug mabibo og samot,” said Kuyamis sports over-all head, Prexy Elipe.
