MANILA (Updated) -- High-profile inmate Jaybee Sebastian was brought Monday from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) to the House of the Representatives for the continuation of the inquiry on the alleged drugs trade inside the NBP.
During the hearing Monday, lawyer Eduardo Arriba, Sebastian's counsel, said the latter will testify on the proliferation of drugs inside and outside the Bilibid.
Arriba said Sebastian will also testify on giving millions of pesos to former Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary Leila De Lima for her senatorial campaign.
House justice committee recommends the granting of immunity to Sebastian, who said he wants the immunity but will still testify even request for immunity is pending.
Aside from immunity, Arriba also requested that Sebastian be placed under witness protection program of the DOJ.
Two other NBP high-profile inmates, Peter Co and Vicente Sy, are also set to testify during the House inquiry.
Under heavy guard of the Philippine National Police Special Action Forces (PNP SAF), Sebastian, Co and Sy arrived at the House of the Representatives in Quezon City Monday morning.
The hearing is ongoing as of this posting Monday.
Earlier, other inmates who testified in the said probe said Sebastian collected money from the illegal drugs trade inside the Bilibid in order to fund De Lima's election campaign.
The inmates said Sebastian was “untouchable” due to his link to De Lima.
Sebastian’s appearance on the House probe was delayed as he was still recovering from the stab wounds when he figured in the riot inside NBP on September 28.
