DETAINED former Senator Jinggoy Estrada has filed a motion with the Sandiganbayan to temporarily leave detention to undergo medical examinations in a hospital in San Juan City.
In an urgent motion received by the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division on Friday, Estrada asked the anti-graft court for permission to have his left knee undergo a Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-ray tests at the Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan City.
The motion stated that Estrada is suffering from patellofemoral pain syndrome based on medical examinations by his doctor at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center in Camp Crame.
"On December 30, 2016, accused was seen by Dr. Jose Syquia at accused's place of detention at the PNP Custodial Center due to complaints of pain on his left knee which is worse when rising from a seated position. Upon examination, accused was noted to have patellofemoral pain syndrome," the motion read.
In the motion, Estrada's camp said his doctor advised him to undergo medical tests as the medications he is taking did not improve his condition.
"As recommended by Doctor Syquia, if there be no improvement, accused should undergo X-Ray and MRI of his left knee in order to further evaluate his condition," the motion said.
In November 2014, the Sandiganbayan allowed Estrada furlough to have his shoulder treated at the same hospital.
The treatment allowed him to leave his detention twice a week from November 25 up to the first week of December 2014.
Estrada is detained at the PNP custodial center in Camp Crame for his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam allegedly orchestrated by his co-accused, Janet Lim-Napoles. (Sunnex)
