HUNDREDS of young cagers will gather at the Trinity Christian School in Bacolod City on February 10 and 11 for the Jr. NBA Philippines 2018 Regional Selection Camp.
The event will feature boys and girls aged 10 to 14 from Bacolod and nearby cities, and other areas in the Visayas.
Participants get the chance to join a learn-and-achieve camp that will test their physical and basketball smarts through vitals tests, NBA style skills tests and basketball drills.
They will undergo tests and skills challenges on Day 1 where those with the highest scores earn the right to move on to Day 2.
More basketball drills and team exercises await participants on Day 2.
This will be followed by scrimmages in the afternoon which will help select the most outstanding players who will represent the Visayas in the National Training Camp in Manila from May 19 to 20.
The camp will be run by Jr. NBA coaches Carlos Barroca and Rob Newson together with Jr. NBA Philippines coaches led by PBA legend Jeffrey Cariaso and some Alaska coaches.
“For the past 10 years, Jr. NBA Philippines has established itself as a platform to improve the youth basketball experience and promote an active and healthy lifestyle among the Filipino youth,” said NBA Philippines Managing Director Carlo Singson.
“Together with Alaska, we are committed to providing proper guidelines to how the game should be played and taught to more youth, coaches and parents in the country.”
The Regional Selection Camp and all other stages of the Jr. NBA Program are free. These include touring school clinics, the national training camp and an overseas NBA experience alongside fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from across Southeast Asia later this year.
