A VILLAGE councilman in La Carlota City, Negros Occidental, was arrested for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in Barangay San Miguel on Saturday, February 25.
Superintendent Cresenciano Cordero Jr., officer-in-charge of La Carlota City Police Station, identified the suspect as Noel Serdeña, 52.
Armed with a search warrant issued by Judge Cyclamen Fernandez of Regional Trial Court Branch 63 in La Carlota City, police raided Serdeña's house around 6:30 a.m., leading to the recovery of three unlicensed firearms and several live ammunition.
Found inside Serdeña's bedroom were a .38 caliber revolver loaded with six live ammunition, .22 rifle loaded with 13 live ammunition, 12-gauge shotgun loaded with 14 live ammunition, and a holster.
Cordero said Serdeña admitted that he has yet to process the licenses for his firearms.
The police chief added that they received complaints from Serdeña’s neighbors that he had been threatening anyone with his firearm if he is drunk.
He was placed under surveillance since last year, Cordero added.
Serdeña, who is detained at the station, will face charges for violation of Republic Act 10591, or Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
