BUSINESSMAN Kenneth Dong, who was charged with raping a businesswoman, was transferred to Parañaque City Jail last Sunday, August 27.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) brought Dong to the regular cell on Sunday in compliance with the commitment order issued by Parañaque Regional Trial Court branch 196 Judge Aida Estrella Macapagal.
Dong was temporarily detained at the NBI detention facility after he was arrested in the Senate last August 15.
The businessman has been implicated in the P6.4 billion shabu shipment from China seized at a warehouse in Valenzuela City in May.
Aguirre said he has not received a report of any threat against Dong's life.
"Wala pa naman pong information na nakakarating sa aming opisina sapagkat kahapon lamang po yan inilipat eh," he said.
The justice secretary said no person involved in the Bureau of Customs controversy has asked to be placed under the Department of Justice's Witness Protection Program (WPP).
Aguirre reiterated that Dong could be a state witness if he is not the most guilty in the BOC controversy.
Aside from the rape case, Dong is also among the nine people facing criminal complaints for the importation of illegal drugs and Unauthorized Practice of Customs Broker Profession. (VoxPop Philippines)
