KENYAN runner Eric Chipsiror lived up to expectations as he emerged champion in the first-ever Davao Ultrarunners Club (DUC)-organized International Marathon held in an out-and-back course from Victoria Plaza Parking lot last March 11.
Chipsiror finished the gruelling full marathon race in two hours, 41 minutes and 42 seconds, more than seven minutes ahead of his closest pursuer Elmer Bartolo who clocked in at 2:41.42 for runner-up honors.
Trailing behind were Paul James Zafico (2:53.18), Michael Echalico (2:59.53) and Arnie Macañeras (3:13.12).
Bemedaled Vivian Avergonzado, meanwhile, checked in at 3:41.31 to annex the women's 42K crown over sibling Emely Avergonzado (3:50.53), Olive Firmeza of Philhealth (4:17.27), Noime Fernandez (4:20.07) and Jigs Castillo (4:33.56) who occupied the next four places.
In the 21k category, Jimboy Lugay ruled the male division with a time of 1:12.28, racing past Rizal Memorial Colleges bet Arlan Arbois (1:14.05), Agustin Ychon Jr. (1:15.57), Jefferson Tabacon (1:25.28) and Dexter Nonato (1:26.38).
Seasoned runner Judelyn Miranda of Panabo City registered 1:36.32 to rule the distaff side over Maricel Balabat (1:50.11), who was followed by Jennifer Jean Quia (1:52.11), Angelie Ashley Nera (1:59.30) and Merily Magno (2:00.16).
The event was also endorsed by the Sports Development Division-City Mayor's Office as part of the 81st Araw ng Dabaw sports festival.
