THE BADEO Te-eng in Kibungan town, Benguet has requested P50 million from President Rodrigo Duterte for a farm-to-market road from Gosingao, Sagpat to Barangay Badeo.
In a resolution, Donald Ticula said Barangay Badeo residents are mostly farmers, but due to lack of roads, they could hardly transport their produce to the market. They are, thus, compelled to look for alternative source of income, including marijuana production.
Ticula said Barangay Badeo is one of the seven barangays of the municipality of Kibungan in Benguet, which has a population of 970 constituents who depend on agriculture as their main source of livelihood.
“Planting marijuana has been down to generations since 1960's and it has not been stopped until now. Due to the war on drugs campaign, residents or Barangay Badeo support the program to stop planting marijuana. But it's hard to see the people from the community lose their source of livelihood,” Ticula added.
The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency has downgraded barangays Tacadang and Badeo from seriously drug affected to moderately drug affected barangays.
