JOY Precious Velarde captured two gold medals as the Kidapawan City National High School (KCNHS) runners dominated the 5th leg of 2016-2017 Smart Blue Knights Track League Season 3-PSC Weekly Relays held over the weekend at the Fr. Martinez Sports Complex track oval in Matina, Davao City.
Velarde of KCNHS timed a total of one minute and three seconds to annex the girls 400-meter gold, upsetting 2016 Palarong Pambansa double gold medalist Mae Gey Niñura (1:04) of Kapatagan National High School (KNHS) and Panabo National High School bet April Rose Curato (1:18) who ended up with the silver and bronze, respectively.
Velarde also clinched the girls 200m gold after clocking 30.2 seconds, racing past Dara Mae Beloy of ADDU.
The latter checked in at 31.5 seconds.
Kyle Dominic Bintuyan (boys 400m), Yasharah Daligdig (girls 1500 dash), Joanna Bansag (girls 200m), Lara Gayamara (girls 400m) and Angel Carpentero (girls 3,000m walk) added one gold each for KCNHS that hauled a total of seven gold medals.
Niñura, however, lived up to expectations having snared the open women 1,500m gold earlier.
Layla Ice Cuasito, who ran unopposed, topped the girls 1,500m run.
The rest of the gold winners were Sally Campus of KNHS (girls 3,000m walk), Christian Mondejar (boys 3,000m walk), Jenel Rivas of Anthony and Mark Cavanis Elementary School (AMCES) (girls 100m dash, 200m), Analyn Penales of KNHS (girls 100m dash), Mark Anthony Porto of Hagonoy National High School (HNHS) (boys100m dash, 200m), Jerimiah Cortez of Tagum City National High School (TCNHS) (boys 100m dash, 200m, 100m dash), Briely Briz of University of Mindanao (UM) (boys 100m dash), Rexar Narvina of HNHS (boys 1,500m dash), Nico Caparoso of Marahan National High School (MNHS) (boys 1,500m dash), Arlan Arbois of Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) (men 1,500m dash), Roderick de Roma of Cotabato City State Polytechnic College (CCSPC) (boys 200m, 400m) Louisse Andrea Vero of AMCES (girls 400m) and Rexer Norvida of Hagonoy National Elementary School (boys 400m).
