TWO close relatives of former Agriculture Secretary Proceso Alcala were arrested Sunday evening in an anti-illegal drugs operation in Tayabas, Quezon.
Senior Superintendent Antonio Yara, Quezon Police Provincial Office chief, said Maria Fe Alcala and daughter Toni Anne were arrested around 9:50 p.m. in a buy bust operation conducted in Leveriza Subdivision.
Alcala and her daughter are sister-in-law and niece, respectively, of the ex-agriculture chief.
Maria Fe is the wife of alleged drug lord Athelano Alcala, brother of the former agriculture secretary and now Quezon 2nd District Representative Vicente Alcala, who earlier turned himself to the authorities over his involvement on illegal drugs.
Siezed from the two women were 115 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) and other suspected drug paraphernalia.
"Lumalabas sa investigation na sila ay subject sa nagawang buy bust operations so nagawang makipag negotiate ang ating poseur buyer kay Toni Ann at naaresto nila at nahulihan din ng drugs ‘yung kanyang mother," said Yara.
"They are conspiring sa pagbebenta nila ng illegal drugs, they are involved in drug pushing as far as the investigation is concern," he added.
He said Toni Ann is considered as a “high value target” while Maria Fe is not on their list of people involved in the illegal drugs.
Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act are being prepared against Maria Fe and her daughter. (Sunnex)
