NATIONAL karatedo team members Rexor and Miyuki Tacay are getting ready for the 29th Southeast Asian Games set in August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The Tacay siblings, along with their older brother Bern Rexander Tacay of the Philippine Karatedo Federation (PKF)-Davao, were guests in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Food Cove Function Hall.
Rexor, who recently came home from the Karatedo Friendship Games in The Netherlands, said they are hungry to win medals in Malaysia after karatedo was scrapped in the 2015 SEA Games.
"Na skip ng one year na hindi kami nakasali kaya grabe ang urge namin na maka-medal," Rexor said, adding they will give their best to bring honor to the country.
Rexor recalled that his team won a silver in the Friendship Games held last December 10.
Miyuki, a new member of the national karatedo team, could not promise anything but said she will just do her best in the SEA Games.
Miyuki was invited to join the national team after beating Camille Yamashita for the gold in the kumite -68kg category of the 5th Philippine Karatedo Federation National Karatedo Championship last September at the Fisher Mall Expo Hall in Quezon City.
Bern, for his part, said his younger siblings will perform well in the biennial games.
"Technique-wise, alam na nila kasi mas nauna pa yata silang natuto mag-karate kesa sa magbasa," Bern said. He also advised them to focus and control their emotions.
The Tacay siblings will fly to Manila on January 15 to train with the Philippine Typhoon.
