DEFENDING champion Ceres-University of St. La Salle and last year’s first runner-up Ateneo de Manila University continued to fortify their campaigns in the elimination rounds of the 2nd Sagay Men’s Open Championships scheduled to end Tuesday at the Sagay National High School field in Negros Occidental.
The Ceres-backed team remained undefeated with a come from behind victory over Negros Selection, 2-1 as Oriel Carlie Tejada scored the equalizer in the 18th minute and Charles Barberan, in the 59th minute. Mark Christian Gubatayao scored the initial goal in the early sixth minute for Negros Selection.
Javier Augustine Gayoso fired a pair of goals for Ateneo de Manila to lift the Blue Eagles to No. 2 spot in the table with a 2-1 cliffhanger over Villa Angela FC whose Ryan Lerio scored its lone goal.
Negros Selection improved their standing at No. 3 with 2 wins and 3 losses after beating winless University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 3-1.
