LA TRINIDAD, Benguet -- After 12 years since its last revision, the La Trinidad Municipal Council on Tuesday, July 4, approved the revised Revenue Code of 2017.
Councilor Guiller Galwan said revenue codes are meant to be revised every five years but due to delays, the revised code was only updated recently.
Galwan added the revisions contain new businesses that have been established over the years and have not been included in the Revenue Code of 2005.
The ordinance attributes rapid urbanization and increase of population growth in the municipality as the cause of challenges in the delivery of basic services particularly pressing problem on solid waste management, peace and order, health, economic and other social concerns.
According to Galwan, the Revised Revenue Code will further enable the municipality to collect tax more efficiently.
The Revised Revenue Code will now include all kinds of establishments that were not included in the prior revenue code as the municipality seeks to generate more income for development projects.
The councilor said the specific amount for the graduated tax that will be imposed, revised penalties and fees, as well as provisions for special and regular businesses will be made known to the constituents in La Trinidad through education information campaign.
He added the revised Revenue Code assured tax rates will be more sensible and realistic in light of the prevailing tax rates benchmarks in the municipality of La Trinidad. (Jenny Alexis Caburian/UP Baguio intern)
