LA TRINIDAD Mayor Romeo Salda prohibited trucks to park in Kilometer 5, solving the traffic problem in the area.
On Tuesday morning, the Municipal Government transformed the space into a pay parking lot.
“This will be permanent, we received three petitions from stakeholders about the problem in the area,” Salda said.
Salda said trucks can still pass the area going to the trading post but will be not be allowed to park.
A group of traders and truckers, however, opposed the move, saying: "it is our plea that vegetable stakeholders be heard and allowed to use the Km. 5 parking area and use pushcarts in transferring vegetables. These disturbances in the vegetable trading result to losses most especially to the farmers and consumers."
The group refuted claims that they were selling their produce while waiting for their trucks' entry to the trading post.
“On the complaints of residents and tourists purchasing at public market, we are also residents and tax payers of La Trinidad. We purchase from the public market on a daily basis. The buyers, traders, farmers, packers, porters are also clients of the stall owners at the public market."
