LA TRINIDAD town in Benguet will soon benefit from a free public internet access.
A proposed memorandum of agreement is being worked out by the municipality of La Trinidad and the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) for the free Wi-Fi in public places.
The memorandum will soon be signed Mayor Romeo Salda once the municipal council has given him the authority to sign the agreement.
Councilor Henry Kipas said this will be a first in the province when it comes to providing free internet access by a local government unit.
The project is part of the Juan Konek free public Wi-Fi, which aims to provide free broadband Internet access to every municipality and city nationwide.
Kipas said residents of the town, especially the youth, will have the privilege and comfort of availing this kind of government service.
The free internet access will be provided within parks, gyms, and any available space.
However, areas are still being identified where the free public Wi-Fi will be installed.
Earlier this year, DICT Benguet area project leader Alicia Piacos, Wi-Fi training project specialist Brets Moltio, and Wi-Fi coordinator Mercedes Alsaen presented the proposal for the installation of Wi-Fi in public places within La Trinidad. (Lauren Alimondo)
