THE Department of Labor and Employment (Dole) Central Visayas reminded employers to observe pay rules for Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, which have been declared as special non-working days.
Although the “no work, no pay” policy applies on special non-working holidays, Dole Central Visayas OIC-Director Cyril Ticao said this can be superseded when “there is a favorable company policy, practice or collective bargaining agreement granting payment on a special day.”
If work is rendered on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1, the official reminded employers to pay an additional 30 percent of the worker’s daily rate on the first eight hours of work. For work done in excess of eight hours or overtime work, the worker shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day, he added.
On the other hand, if work is rendered by the employee on his or her rest day, another set of wage computation has to be followed.
Ticao said the worker has to be paid an additional 50 percent of his or her daily rate on the first eight hours of work. For work done in excess of eight hours or overtime work during the special day, which likewise falls on the worker’s rest day, he or she shall be paid an additional 30 percent of his or her hourly rate on the said day.
“We urge the employers to religiously follow, familiarize with, and be guided by the guidelines on the payment of wages on holidays. When workers are given what is due to them, then they won’t have any reasons to feel aggrieved and complain,” the official said in a statement.
In Central Visayas, Class A cities and municipalities or for Expanded Metro Cebu for instance, daily minimum wage rate is at P366.00.
Meanwhile, for cities and municipalities under Class B category, the minimum wage rate is set at P333.00. The Cities of Toledo, Bogo, and the rest of the Municipalities in Cebu Province except for the Islands of Bantayan and Camotes, belong to Class B category.
The Class C Cities and Municipalities in the Provinces of Bohol and Negros Oriental have P323.00 as daily minimum wage rate. For Class D Municipalities in Siquijor Province and the Municipalities in Bantayan and Camotes Islands, workers should receive P308.00 daily minimum wage.
On Aug. 16, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation 50, declaring Special Non-Working Days on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 for the traditional All Saints’ Day commemorative activities. (JOG)
