FIVE houses in Sitio Tawagan 1, Barangay Sirao, Cebu City, were damaged by a landslide triggered by heavy rains Monday, January 16.
Nagiel Bañacia, head of the Cebu City Risk Reduction Management Office, said on Facebook that about 68 families evacuated to Sirao Elementary School after a portion of a mountain in the village moved, damaging some parts of the road going to the area.
A photo posted by Bañacia showed a cracked portion of the road, making it impassable to vehicles and stranding residents.
The landslide also endangered the famous flower farm in the village, added Bañacia.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomic Services Administration issued at 5 p.m. Monday a yellow heavy rainfall warning in Cebu, Bohol and Negros Oriental.
The warning means flooding is possible in low-lying areas and landslide may occur in mountainous areas.
The state weather bureau advised the public to take precautionary measures as rains may persist. (Pia Noreen Bilar/VoxPop Philippines)
