LAWYER Arnel Lapore, former board president of Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco), said the election of District IV Director Roy Cordova as his successor surprised him.
Lapore on Wednesday, May 10, said he believed that Cordova would be the person least interested in the position.
Cordova was elected during the board meeting Tuesday afternoon.
“We have been together since I joined Ceneco… and we really treated each other as friends. It would be okay if others did it because I know that you could hardly convince them. Nonetheless, he was the choice of a collegial body which changes every year and I don’t have any regrets. I am just surprised,” Lapore said.
“I am still a director, I just hope that for matters of the interest of the consumers and the cooperative, we will be united.”
Lapore said he hopes that Cordova can withstand the conditions on why he became president.
“Whatever it is, I hope he will be able to deliver it. Otherwise, he will just be played around,” he added.
Lapore said that before the change of board leadership, he had remaining unimplemented programs for Ceneco, including computerization, and re-organization of workforce.
Lapore’s three-year term as director will end in 2018.
Remain under NEA
Meanwhile, Cordova said he prefers that Ceneco will remain under the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
Cordova made the stand as Ceneco is set to hold a referendum for consumer-members to decide whether to maintain under NEA, register with the Cooperative Development Authority, or register under the Securities and Exchange Commission as a stock company.
Cordova said that as board president, he will continue the programs started by Lapore especially on the intensified electrification program in remote areas of Murcia, Salvador Benedicto, Talisay City, Silay City, Bago City and Bacolod City.
Cordova said there was a very cordial turn-over of office between him and Lapore after his election as president.
