A MEMBER of a lawless group was killed, while another managed to escape, in a brief firefight in a remote village of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported on Monday, August 28.
Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the firefight happened around 2:30 p.m., Sunday, August 27, in the village of Doña Cecilia, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.
Galvez identified the slain lawless group member as Abdusalam Wahab alias Boyong, a resident of Panabotan, Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte.
Galvez said the troops were on security patrol when they chanced upon two lawless elements and engaged them in a brief firefight that resulted to the Wahab’s death.
She said Wahab has standing warrant of arrest for attempted murder issued by the court in the municipality of Siocon, an adjoining town of Sirawai.
The troops recovered from the possession of Wahab a caliber .45 pistol and a hand grenade.
Galvez said Wahab’s group is allegedly engaged in criminal activities in the village of Doña Cecilia, Sirawai.
