CALBAYOG CITY -- A member of the House of Representatives from Samar province has asked the public to be vigilant amid threats from lawless elements.
Samar first district Representative Edgar Mary Sarmiento made the appeal few days after the tragic incident at in Davao City night market that killed 14 people and wounded 70 others.
“This is really hard. This was made by terrorist who does not spare anybody. The government’s intelligence already reported prior to the explosion that an incident something like this will happen either in Manila, Cebu, or Davao as a fall back mechanism against the government,” he said.
Sarmiento asked local authorities in Samar to be watchful and strictly implement security procedures.
He even urged security officers of private and government offices, as well as private establishments to be attentive in their duties and be mindful as to what is happening in their premises.
“To the public, be extra careful, especially in public places, and to the people of Calbayog, wherein we will celebrate our city fiesta, let’s pray that nothing will happen,” Sarmiento said.
Sarmiento also extended his condolences and sympathies to the families of the Davao blast victims.
“We would like to extend our deepest and sincerest condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims of the tragic and reprehensible Roxas Night Market bombing in Davao City,” he said in his Facebook post.
“In this time of great uncertainty, we must all stand united and solidly behind the people of Davao as well as our President, police, and military,” Sarmiento said.
He asked the people in Samar to pray for the victims of the tragic incident in Davao City, and to continue praying for the attainment of lasting peace in the entire country. (PNA)
