ZAMBOANGA City First District Representative Celso Lobregat (District 1) announced his full support to the approval of House Bill No. 009 that seeks to establish drug rehabilitation center in each of the regions in the country.
Lobregat said the establishment of drug rehabilitation center in every region will broaden the coverage of treatment and recovery programs for drug dependents.
He said the bill also provides the cooperation between people’s organization and the government, through the Department of Health (DOH), for the operation and management of the drug rehabilitation centers.
He noted that the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB) reported that there are around 1.7 million people who are addicted to drugs in the Philippines.
The bill was authored by House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez in line with the anti-drug war of President Rodrigo Duterte.
Lobregat has been pushing for the completion of the drug rehabilitation center in Zamboanga City.
The construction of the drug rehabilitation center, which has 100-bed capacity, is being constructed at the 26-hectare compound of the Mindanao Central Sanitarium in the village of Pasobolong, Zamboanga City.
DOH Secretary Paulyn Jean Rosell-Ubial, in her visit earlier in this city, said the rehabilitation center is set to be completed on or before the end of this year. (VoxPop Philippines)
