UNIVERSITY of the Visayas team manager and Cebu first district congressman Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas created a two-man investigating team to look into the alleged “head-locking” by his player of a Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu player during their Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. match.
Gullas, who was on his way to report to Congress during the interview, told Sun.Star Cebu his reaction to the photos of posted by Anthony Hejie Suralta on social media.
“I will conduct an investigation. If my player, which I think is (Justine Jake) Rosete as what the picture suggest (is guilty). I will let heads roll. There will be punishment. I will let coach Phil (Mercader) and coach (Delfin) Pepito do the investigation. If ni-tuok gyud siya, dili na pwede nako. He (Rosete) will have to be punished,” Gullas said.
Gullas watched the game last Sunday where the Magis Eagles dominated the Baby Lancers with their full-court traps and accurate shooting.
The incident happened a few minutes after UV player Ivan Maataa was ejected for punching SHS-AdC’s Errol Pastor at the 5:38 mark of the first quarter.
“It’s not what we teach our students at UV. I will act accordingly with whatever the results of the investigation of coach Phil and coach Pepito. That will probably be on Thursday when I get back from Manila. I’m on my way to Manila now,” Gullas said.
This incident adds another layer to the storied rivalry between SHS-AdC and UV, whose matches are almost always heated.
The latest was in a Cordova pre-season tournament where Maata was alleged to have hit SHS-AdC team B member Josh Puentebella during a power outage.
In that same tournament, UV was meted a total of P55,000 in fines for engaging in a free-for-all against the Don Bosco Technological Center (DBTC) Greywolves.
