MORE than 40 members of the House of Representatives have demanded the immediate resignation of Sandra Cam as a member of the board of directors of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
This, after she accused Negros Oriental 3rd District Representative Arnulfo Tevez Jr. of being a Small Town Lottery (STL) operator in his province. Cam made the allegation during the February 28 hearing of the House committee on games and amusement into the anomalies in the PCSO.
Tevez denied the allegation and urged Cam to resign if she will not be able to prove her claim.
The former vowed to resign as well if proven that he is a gambling operator.
According to the 48 lawmakers who signed the resolution demanding the resignation of Cam, "any and all invited guests and resource persons in any Committee hearing should at all times accord all members of the House of Representatives respect by reason of their positions as duly-elected public officers."
The lawmakers noted that Cam yelled at Tevez during the previous hearing and also threatened the latter when she was interviewed by the media after the hearing.
This is not the first time that Cam disrespected a member of Congress, the lawmakers said.
"In another committee hearing, Ms. Sandra Cam likewise verbally abused the distinguished Minority leader Danilo Suarez," the resolution states.
It added: "Such unruly behavior of Ms. Sandra Cam is a direct affront to this institution."
The lawmakers urged the House of Representatives to initiate contempt proceedings against Cam.
Tevez and Suarez were among those who signed the resolution.
Surigao del Norte 2nd District Rep. Robert Ace Barbers, Negros Occidental 2nd District Rep. Leo Cueva, Cebu 5th District Rep. Red Durano, Cebu 6th District Rep. Jonas Cortes, Cebu 7th District Rep. Peter Calderon, Iloilo 5th District Rep. Raul Tupas are also among the 48 lawmakers who signed the resolution. (VoxPop Philippines)
