THE Office of the Ombudsman (OMB) has ordered Friday the one-month suspension of Lianga town officials in Surigao del Sur after they were found guilty of simple neglect of duty.
The Ombudsman ordered the suspension of Bids and Awards Committee (Bac) members Noel Cunanan, Redentor dela Cruz, Dr. Leo Alfonso Sarmen, Marlyn Lobo and Edwin Igsoc.
According to the decision of the Ombudsman, the five officials committed irregularities in the conduct of a negotiated procurement for the implementation of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) 2014 Grassroot Participatory Budgeting Program with a budget of P939,582.
The accused failed to search for possible alternative suppliers, and instead directly chose Green Planet Plant Nursery in violation of the implementing rules and regulations of the Government Procurement Reform (Republic Act 9184).
In case of separation from the service, the penalty is convertible to fine equivalent to respondent's one month salary, the Ombudsman said.
