LIBERTAD Lady Fearless ruled the three-day Foton Motor Philippines Women’s Volleyball Challenge, which ended Saturday, May 20, at the MSU-IIT gym in Iligan City.
Libertad outlasted Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC) lady Rhinos in three straight grueling sets in the finals to win the title.
Libertad and Iligan Medical engaged in a tight first set that went to 24-all deadlock, before the former prevailed in “add-two” situation, 26-24.
From there on, there’s no stopping the Lady Fearless from taking the title as they sealed it with identical 25-21 finish in the second and third sets.
On their way to the top, the Lady Fearless barely made it to the crossover round after landing just second place in bracket B with two victories and a loss against Iligan City National High School Lady Spartans.
The lady Spartans were in hot streak in the eliminations with a 3-0 win-loss card.
But upsets rocked in the semifinals as Libertad outplayed bracket A leader CdeO All-Stars and Lady Rhinos shocked erstwhile unbeaten Lady Spartans.
The Spartans defeated the CdeO All-Stars, 17-25, 25-6 and 28-18 in the battle for third place.
The three-day tournament was organized by the Office of Congressman Frederick W. Siao of Iligan City’s lone district.
