ANYBODY who would hear the torching of the two kids and their mother by their padre de pamilya would surely condemn the act and the actor of the crime.
Sadly, the second of the two children, who were burned by their father in Barangay Dila-Dila, Sta. Rita town has lost its battle with severe burns. It can be recalled that among the two, the three-month-old kid died last Thursday while the older one-year-old died on Friday.
Their mother, who is barely in her 20’s, is still recuperating in the hospital due to serious burns she sustained, while the perpetrator who was also burned by the gasoline he poured to his family and lit, is also in a hospital after his arrest.
The incident happened last Wednesday morning while the victims were sleeping inside their home. The father, aged 25 years old, poured gasoline on the victims and lit them with a matchstick. As expected, flame instantly burned the bodies of the victims which caught their neighbors’ attention.
The latter tried to save the two young children and their mother but were too late that fire engulfed the bodies of the victims instantaneously inflicting burn injuries. Immediately on the other hand, the suspect was arrested.
According to the suspect, what prompted him with his fiery act was a heated argument between him and his common-law-wife over a Facebook post.
The reason of the father burning his family was very petty. Perhaps he is not on his right mind to do such act or maybe as anyone can speculate, is high on drugs to do such gruesome act.
It’s quite inhuman to cause injuries to one’s member of a family, much so to kill them by burning. The kids died painfully through the scorch of lighted gasoline, while the mother has to endure the agonizing healing process of her burns. What is more painful for the mother is the loss of her two young kids.
It’s unimaginable for someone to do such to his family. One would raise a question as to why are there some who can manage to perpetrate crimes against the members of his family. The reason of the father in the crime he committed is very irrational.
If we come to think of it, the crime would not have been committed if only the members have close family ties with the father.

I express my heartfelt condolences to the family of veteran columnist Edgardo “Ed” Aguilar, Sr. Known to many as Macky Pangan, Dan U. Pan, Domingo De Ramos and Que Sio Que Tal, Tang Ed as I fondly call him, is a man of deep ideas and intelligent humor.
He often cracks jokes during gatherings of the members of the media and in a subtle way, shared words of wisdom about life which need logic and serious pondering to appreciate what he was trying to imply.
A vivid recollection of our encounter was when Tang Ed would brag to me his basic mobile phone which he portrays as if he was taking a photograph of someone despite its lack of a camera.
We lost a good man in Tang Ed.
