JOSHUA Castro, Mark Francis Jimenez, Jong Ortalla and Marell Lagunday of Lopue’s Table Tennis Association (Loptta) captured the championship in Class A of the 2017 Chinese Filipino Business Club Inc. (CFBCI) Cup Table Tennis Championship held at Robinsons Place Manila on May 27-28.
Loptta president Leonito Lopue took home the second runner-up honors in the VIP event.
In Class A, Loptta edged Dobinsons 4x4 Manila of John Russel Misal, Alexis Bolante and Muse Balatbat in the championship 2-1 to bring home the crown.
Jimenez started the bid but lost to undefeated Misal in straight sets 0-3.
Down 0-1, Lagunday showed her perfect form demolishing the Philippines’ No. 2 Balatbat in straight sets 0-3 to even the score at 1-1.
In the final single match to determine the champion, all eyes were on Castro and Bolante. Castro maintained his composure after being down 1-2 to force the game to a decider 2-2. In the fifth and final game, Castro gained the momentum and never looked back winning, 11-3.
Around 300 table tennis players from all over the country joined the event sponsored by the CFBCI with the Table Tennis Association for National Development. (PR)
