A CITY councilor suggested that Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) should coordinate with the City Council to help ease Davao City's traffic problem.
City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, committee chair for finance, ways, and means, said at the sidelines of the regular session Tuesday, September 27, the government agency should report to the council first before opening any franchise for public transports.
"One factor on the worsening traffic is the number of public utilities on our roads, the LTFRB should not grant franchises right away without consulting the council," Dayanghirang said.
LTFRB-Davao, however, is not required to report to the council regarding the matter.
"I still have to message the Speaker of the House Pantaleon Alvarez to consider this matter," Dayanghirang added.
The councilor has also suggested in previous reports that some of the private roads in Davao City including Ladislawa Garden Village and the exit of Abreeza Ayala Mall should be open to decongest public ways.
Dayanghirang, however, said those are not under their power as members of the City Council.
"The Congress have already talked about this before but they only said it would be possible in Manila because of the worse traffic situation there," Dayanghirang said, adding if they allow it in Manila then same should be done in highly-urbanized cities, Cebu and Davao.
