MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte -- The local government of Maasin City finally started the massive rehabilitation of drug surrenderers here as village teams are equipped in a trainers' training.
Maasin City Mayor Nacional Mercado called for a unified action among the participants of the Barangay Based Rehabilitation Program (BBRP) through the Therapeutic Community (TC) Approach Training of Trainers to be led by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) from April 24 to 28 at New Liga Office Function Hall, this city.
The training was participated by members of the Expanded Ugnayan ng barangay at Simbahan City Technical Working Group, Masa Masid members, Barangay Anti-Drug Addiction Council (Badac), village chiefs and council members, village health workers, national line agencies like Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), Department of Labor and Employment, DOH, and faith-based organizations like the Oasis of Love, Gawad Kalinga and UCCP, among others.
Some 1,553 drug surrenderers, who preferred to be called aspirants in Maasin City, will soon undergo drug rehabilitation right at their respective communities.
The City Government prioritized 31 villages, which were heavily infiltrated with drug problems, are set to implement the rehabilitation program soonest.
Successful aspirants after rehabilitation are assured of skills trainings of their choice with the scholarship program from the Tesda, it was learned. (PIA)
