ILOILO City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog is hoping the current police investigation on the killing of suspected drug lord couple Melvin Sr. and Meriam Odicta will soon come out with specific suspects and charge the perpetrators immediately in court.
Melvin Sr. is considered as the top drug lord of Iloilo and rest of Western Visayas.
He and his wife Miriam were gunned early morning of August 29 while walking under a canopy at the Caticlan jetty port in Malay, Aklan after embarking from St. Anthony de Padua roro vessel from Batangas.
Early police reports from Aklan showed the wife was the first to fall after an unknown gunman shot her at the back.
Few feet away Melvin Sr. fell to a bullet shot at the leg.
Autopsy reports showed that Melvin Sr. suffered four gunshot wounds with two different pistols and the wife with a lone bullet hole through her back.
Task Group Odicta was immediately convened by Police Regional Office-Western Visayas with Senior Superintendent Alfredo Valdez, deputy region director for operations, as task group commander to dig deeper into the twin killings.
Other members include Aklan provincial commander John Mitchel Jamili, Chief Inspector Ray Cuanico and SPOI Nida Gregas as spokesperson.
Other members are Chief Inspector Dennis Gabihan, Chief Inspector Bernard Ufano, Superintendent Ulyssis Ortiz, Senior Police Officer 2 (SPO2) Noel Monares, and Superintendent Ariel Galeno.
Mabilog reiterated that the City Government is consistent with its battle against the proliferation of illegal drugs in the city and all city barangays must report the existence of illegal drug personalities to the Barangay Anti–Drug Abuse Council.
The mayor will also meet with representatives of the PDEA and the police to discuss the incident.
The meeting shall be taken with a positive note to show no grudges and bring in positive results to the city. (LCP/Sunnex)
