Magalong backs Jaybee Sebastian’s testimonies

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) deputy chief for operations Benjamin Magalong said Monday that most of the statements of convict Jaybee Sebastian corroborated in many of their findings in their investigation on the illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).

"Karamihan ng nabanggit ni Mr. Sebastian corroborates many of our findings and conclusion," Magalong said, rating Sebastian's testimonies "six out of 10."

Sebastian, who was tagged by other inmates as the "lord of the drug lords" inside the penitentiary, appeared in the resumption of the congressional hearing.

Sebastian said Senator Leila de Lima was aware of the "kubols" or the special shelters that house drug lords inside the NBP as early as 2011, during the leadership of former Bureau of Corrections director Ernesto Diokno.

He said De Lima even spearheaded the dismantling of the kubols.

However, Magalong said he was wondering why De Lima seemed to be surprised when they showed the pictures of the kubols to her in 2014.

"Doon po ako nagulat dahil nung may pagkakataon na binaggit ko sa kanya, 'Ma'am ito po ang pictures ng mga kubol,' parang nagulat siya," Magalong said.

"Nagkunwari ho ba siya? Hindi ko po talaga alam. Ine-evaluate ko pa ang kanyang naging reaction," he added.

Magalong said he is trying to piece things together on why de Lima acted "surprised" when in fact she had already seen the structures of kubol years ahead. (Sunnex)
