STANDOUTS Wesley Jovan Magbanua, Charliemagne Arias, Earl Rhay Mantilla, Gino Angelo Asuncion, and Jane Lagang shared top honors in the just-concluded 17th Acas Palero Moulic (APM) Youth Chess Tournament held at the Market Basket Damosa in Lanang, Davao City.
Wesley Jovan Magbanua ruled the mixed 12 years old and below blitz event, edging fellow four-pointers Samantha Umayan and James Catayas via superior tie-breaks. Umayan placed second while Catayas placed third.
Magbanua pocketed P400 while Umayan got P200.
Charliemagne Arias, for her part, scored perfect five points to govern the mixed 12 years old and below rapid event over four-pointers Magbanua, Ryan Gabriel Rasay and David Patrick Belisario who grabbed the next two spots.
Arias went home with P500 while the next two placers got P300 and P200.
Earl Rhay Mantilla also scored perfect five points, outclassing next three placers Gino Angelo Asuncion (4.0), Blanche Ellyz Bongato (4.0) and John Kenneth Tabada (3.5) in boys 25 years old and below blitz event.
Mantilla claimed P400 while the next three winners settled for P200 each.
Asuncion, meanwhile, earned 4.5 points to annex the boys 25-below rapid title. Trailing behind were Ruel Canavera (4.0), Japeth Aaron Caresosa (4.0) and Mantilla (3.5).
Asuncion went home with P500 while Canavera had P300. Caresosa and Mantilla received P200 apiece.
Jane Lagang, meanwhile, bagged the girls 25-below rapid crown over Michelle Arellano (4.0), Roselle Vinne Guevara (3.0), and Charlene Moulic (3.0).
Lagang had P300 while Arellano got P200. Guevara and Moulic each went home with P100.
The special awardees were Lagang (top female 25-below), James Catayas (top under nine), Caerel Shane Mantilla (top female 13-below rapid), Moulic (top female) and Samantha Umayan (top female 25-below rapid).
