THE local governments of Makati and Marikina will implement traffic rerouting scheme to avoid heavy traffic around the major cemeteries during the observance of the All Saints' Day and All Souls' Day.
To avoid traffic build up around the vicinity of Manila South Cemetery in South Avenue, Makati, the following areas will be closed starting 12 a.m. of October 31 until November 2: Kalayaan Avenue from Zapote Street to N. Garcia Street; South Avenue from Metropolitan to JP Rizal; Vito Cruz from South Avenue to Zapote Street; and Pililia Street from JP Rizal to Kalayaan Avenue in Makati City.
A one-way traffic will be implemented along Kalayaan Avenue from N. Garcia to Makati Avenue and Metropolitan Avenue from South Avenue to N. Garcia.
Two-way traffic will be implemented along J.P. Rizal from Pasong Tirad to Makati Avenue and Kalayaan Avenue from Pasong Tirad to Zapote street.
The number-coding scheme is suspended in Makati from October 31 to November 2.
Meanwhile, the Marikina City Transportation Management and Development Office (CTMDO) will implement one-way traffic starting 12 noon of October 30 in the following routes, as heavy volume of people are expected to visit Loyola Memorial Park and other cemeteries in the city: stretch of A. Bonifacio Avenue, which will only allow vehicles going to Marikina City from Quezon City; northbound of G. Puyat street; and southbound of J. Cruz street.
“Although the said one-way traffic scheme is expected to be lifted on November 1 at 12:00 noon, it can still be further extended depending on the volume of people still at the cemeteries at the aforementioned date and time,” the CTMDO said.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Oscar Albayalde said they have put in place necessary security measures to ensure the peaceful observance of the All Souls' Day and All Saints' Day.
"Dito po sa Metro Manila, wala po tayong natatanggap na threat particularly on terrorism. However, 'yun pong ating pag-iingat sa mga places of convergence particularly 'yung mga malls, 'yung mga bus terminals natin, 'yan po 'yung binabantayan natin ngayon," he said. (Sunnex)
