THE Davao City's food scene is getting livelier than ever, what with the additions of new restaurants that offer something new to Dabawenyos.
Truth be told, among the newcomers, only few are able to tickle the Dabawenyo palates and keep a steady stream of customers dining in.
The latest, Rekado Filipino Comfort Food, is located at 1050 Jacinto Extension, Barangay 11-B, Davao City.
Recently, a group of media guests were invited to try out its seafood dishes over lunch.
Chef Pauline Benedicto, who takes helm of Rekado's kitchen, said that what they serve at Rekado's are Filipino comfort food.
Of course, they did not miss out seafood dishes in their menu, considering that the city is blessed to have its fresh supply from neighboring areas.
"Aside from the bountiful fruits, the region is a fresh fish basket. This is why we have a good number of fish dishes in our menu at Rekado," said Pauline Benedicto.
First off, the chef served us the Spicy Tuna with mango, which is made of diced tuna mixed with mango, crab fat, and spice paste. It goes with Crispy Wonton.
Next up: Chicharon at Kilawin salad. The Malasugi is served raw, which goes with a generous amount of side salad of mixed green and tops of sayote drizzled with house dressing and guava tamarind glaze, and vegetable chicharon for that added crunch.
There's Pesang Lamang Dagat, a healthy and savory soup dish made from Pampano and Imbao simmered in fresh turmeric, dill and kaffir lime leaves.
We also had tried the Deep-Fried Lapu-Lapu. The secret is in the sauce, which is made from tamarind and guava.
Then, the Grilled Bbq Seafood Platter with Ensaladang Talong and Soy Vinegar Sauce, comprised of blue marlin, squid, shrimps and baked tahong and made tastier with a special barbecue sauce. It goes with ensaladang talong and spicy soy vinegar for vinegar.
To end our lunch, churros was served, that's paired with dark Malagos Chocolate and Salted Caramel dip.
