POLICE arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly running extorting money from foreign nationals.
Suspect Jerry Flores was caught by the team led by Senior Inspector Windel Abellana of Regional Intelligence Division (RID)-Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG)-Central Visayas in a pawnshop in Barangay Yati, Liloan, northern Cebu, Monday afternoon, March 6.
Senior Superintendent Jonathan Cabal, the RID-Central Visayas chief, said one of the suspects' victims was the American wife of an executive official of International Justice Mission, a human rights organization.
"The suspect sent threats of kidnapping their kids and the husband reported to us last week," Cabal said.
Flores sent the threats through text messages.
Seized from the suspect were a cell phone, electronic receipt, and $2,000.
Flores will face complaints for robbery extortion in relation to Republic Act 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. (KAL/VoxPop Cebu)
