POLICE have arrested a former driver of the chief of Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Station 5 for allegedly posing as a police officer.
Joseph Ruallo was arrested in an entrapment operation conducted by the Philippine National Police Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) in Pearl Drive, Fairview, Quezon City, last Wednesday, around 3 p.m.
CITF spokesperson Jewel Nicanor said Ruallo, who claimed to be a member of the PNP, asked P50,000 to downgrade the case against a drug suspect.
After some negotiation, the suspect agreed to accept the P15,000 being offered by the drug suspect's family.
Instead of giving the money immediately, the family reported the alleged extortion attempt to the CITF, which immediately decided conduct an entrapment operation against the suspect.
During his arrest, police recovered from Ruallo a gun and the money used during the entrapment operation.
Nicanor said they have found out that Ruallo is a former driver of the QCPD Station 5 chief Bobby Glen Ganipac.
"Part po ng ongoing investigation in coordination with District Director, QCPD (Guillermo Eleazar) yung determination ng possible involvement ni Superintendent Ganipac sa incident," he said.
Ruallo implicated three policemen from the QCPD Station 5 Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) in the alleged extortion attempt.
Ruallo said Senior Police Officer 3 Marlo Sammy, PO3 Henry Tingle and PO1 Marlon Fajardo instructed him to extort money from the drug suspect.
QCPD chief Guillermo Eleazar immediately ordered the relief of the three cops and QCPD Station 5 SDEU head Inspector Severino Busa.
Eleazar said he also recommended the relief of Ganipac pending the investigation on his possible involvement in the extortion case. (VoxPop Philippines)
